In this project, I configured the networking on an ESXi host to separate management traffic from virtual machine traffic. I created a dedicated virtual switch for VM networking, assigned physical NICs to separate network traffic, and configured port groups to control how virtual machines connect to the network.

ESXi networking operates in a virtualized environment. To configure the network for the VMs, I separated management traffic from VM traffic, assigned VLANs where required, and distributed traffic across different physical NICs.
Below are the main network configurations I applied to the ESXi host.
The management network allows remote access to the ESXi host and communication with vCenter Server, which is used to centrally manage multiple ESXi hosts in a data center.
To isolate management traffic from VM traffic and maintain remote management access, I configured a dedicated physical NIC for the management network. I also planned the network connectivity around the specific switch ports and VLAN settings required for management traffic.
First, I created a new virtual switch and assigned the second physical NIC to it to separate VM network traffic physically from management traffic.
Then, I created a new port group on the newly added virtual switch to provide network connectivity for the VMs.
Finally, I edited the network settings of the existing VMs and assigned their virtual NICs to the newly created port group.
As a result, the original vSwitch remained dedicated to management traffic through its assigned physical NIC, while the new vSwitch handled VM traffic through a separate physical NIC. VLAN settings were configured where required.
